Law Society 2023 Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of The Law Society of New South Wales will be held on Thursday 26 October 2023 at 4.30pm in the Law Society Building, 170 Phillip Street, Sydney. This is an in-person event.

Bankwest ceasing to offer Statutory Trust Accounts
Bankwest have advised the Law Society of NSW that they will be ceasing to offer Statutory Trust Accounts under the Bankwest brand. Bankwest has given notice to impacted customers of their intention to close Statutory Trust Accounts. The Trust Accounts Department has followed up with impacted law practices. If you have any queries, please contact the Trust Accounts Department on (02) 9926 0337 or by email at  trust@lawsociety.com.au. The institutions authorised to hold general trust accounts in NSW are listed on the Law Society website www.lawsociety.com.au.

2023 Indigenous Speaker Series: Register today

Trading names to be retired from the Australian Business Register
From 1 November 2023, ABN Lookup will no longer display trading names and will only display registered business names. The Australian Business Register stopped collecting or updating trading names on 28 May 2012.Transitional arrangements which have applied to allow the business community time to register business names are due to expire on 31 October 2023. Any business still using a trading name should ensure a business name is registered prior to this date. More information on the transition is available here.

Newly certified trust accounting software: Clio Manage and MatterX
The Trust Accounts Department has recently concluded an examination of two trust accounting software packages and are pleased to announce that both Clio Manage and MatterX have successfully been certified as complying systems under the Uniform Law. Price increase for land tax clearance certificates
Revenue NSW has advised that from 1 November 2023, the cost of a land tax clearance certificate (including the property tax status certificate) will increase from $35 to $60. All certificate applications completed on or after this date will be subject to the updated fee of $60 per certificate. Any certificate applications pending completion with Revenue NSW, that were submitted before 1 November 2023 will be charged at the previous rate of $35.
