The NSW Law Society continues to advocate for barriers to foreign lawyers to be addressed
We recently responded to Legal Services Council’s (LSC) consultation on proposed amendments to the Admission Rules and draft Council guideline regarding foreign lawyers. Our response is supportive of the amendments but asks once again that the LSC consider conditional licensing as a practical means to address barriers to foreign lawyers practising in Australia. Postponement of Justice Henderson's Farewell Ceremony
The upcoming Ceremonial Sitting of Division 1 of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia to farewell the Honourable Justice Henderson, scheduled for Tuesday, 21 November 2023 at 4:30pm has been postponed. A Ceremonial Sitting of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 1) will be held on Monday, 4 December 2023 at 4:30pm in Courtroom 7C, Level 7, Lionel Bowen Building, 97-99 Goulburn Street to farewell the Honourable Justice Louise Henderson. Members of the profession who wish to attend should RSVP their attendance to Ms Ashleigh Johnston ( Ashleigh.Johnston@fcfcoa.gov.au) by Wednesday, 29 November 2023. The Ceremonial Sitting will be livestreamed via the Courts’ YouTube channel.

Revenue NSW - Preparing for 2024 land tax year
Information has been published by Revenue NSW in relation to:
- the early issuing of land tax assessments for settlements occurring at the beginning of 2024;
- requesting a 2024 Section 47 land tax clearance certificate from Monday 11 December 2023; and
- the scheduled publication of 2024 land tax thresholds on Friday 1 December 2023.
