In just a few days, the NSW legal profession has reason to mark a significant and perhaps bittersweet anniversary. In the year NSW marks the bicentenary of the establishment of the Supreme Court in 1824, we have cause to reflect that it took another one hundred years before the first female solicitor was admitted to that court. This Thursday, 6 June, is the centenary of the admission of Marie Beuzeville Byles in 1924. In 1902 the first NSW woman to earn her LLB, Ada Evans, was refused admission to the Bar. The Attorney General is seeking applications from qualified persons for appointment as a Judge of the District Court of NSW under the District Court Act 1973. Applicants must be either current or former judicial officers or Australian lawyers of at least seven years’ standing and should be conversant with the law and procedures applied in the District Court of NSW. Revenue NSW - Section 54 and Section 55 eDuties enhancements
Revenue NSW has updated the evidentiary requirements and enhanced the eDuties applications for Section 54 – Change in Trustee and Section 55 – Property vested in an apparent purchaser. When submitting these applications, the list of evidentiary requirements will change in real time based on the responses making the process more user-friendly and efficient.

District Court General Practice Note
1 On 24 May 2024, the Chief Judge issued District Court General Practice Note 1 Pronunciation of Names and Forms of Address , with a commencement date of 27 May 2024. The new Practice Note makes clear the requirement for court users to familiarise themselves with the correct pronunciation of names and forms of address of individuals in proceedings and sets out how this information can be provided to the Court.
