A couple of weeks ago in my message about ANZAC Day, I mentioned the long tradition of NSW solicitors serving in the Australian military. On Friday, I was able to be part of a function in honour of those among our profession past and present, serving in the three branches of the Australian Defence Force. The Tri-Services Reserve Legal Panels event was led by the Law Society’s 2018 President Doug Humphreys CSC OAM, now a Judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. Volunteers needed: 2024 Mock Law Program
Running since 1981, the Law Society of NSW Mock Trial and Mock Mediation Competitions form an integral part of our annual high school programs. We are currently seeking volunteers to participate as Mock Trial Magistrates, Mock Mediation Adjudicators or Script writers for this year’s program. Find out more and register as a volunteer here.

Tim Faulkner SC appointed to NSW Supreme Court
Attorney General Michael Daley has announced the appointment of Mr Faulkner to the Supreme Court NSW. Mr Faulkner was admitted as a solicitor in 1990 and has practised in the areas of commercial law, competition and consumer law, equity, insurance and reinsurance, professional negligence, property, consumer protection, corporations law, alternative dispute resolution, and appeals. Mr Faulkner will be a judge of the Common Law Division.

Trial by Jury – A Dramatic Cantata in One Act
As part of its bicentenary celebrations, the Supreme Court of NSW will host two performances of Trial by Jury - A Dramatic Cantata in One Act on Thursday, 30 May and Friday, 31 May at 7.00pm in the Banco Court. Written by W S Gilbert (and somewhat brought into the present day by Vicki Hartstein) and composed by Sir Arthur Sullivan, this very model of a modern comic opera will be conducted by Peter Hidden AM and accompanied by Simon Kenway. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased from the New South Wales Bar Association.
