Being called a “sellout” isn’t often considered a compliment, but I am going to embrace the term when applied to the Law Society’s 2023 Annual Conference held last Thursday and Friday at the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park. At the outset, the Events team and other staff from the Law Society, some doubling as presenters and moderators, are owed a debt of gratitude for pulling together a magnificent event that provided practitioners from across NSW invaluable opportunities for networking and learning. 2023 Law Society Council Election – Voting
Solicitor members will have received an invitation to vote electronically in the 2023 Law Society Council election. The email includes a link to the electronic voting form. Eight candidates have been nominated to fill three “Councillor” Unreserved Positions (each for a three-year term). Solicitor members must ensure their vote is received before the ballot closes at 2.00pm (AEDT) on Monday, 23 October 2023. Enquiries should be directed to secretary@lawsociety.com.au. The Council of The Law Society of New South Wales invites any person who has suffered pecuniary loss because of default by the law practice Autore & Associates Solicitors & Barristers, arising from the conduct of an associate of that law practice, Mr. Anthony Autore, to make a claim against the Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund. Be cyber wise – don’t compromise
October is Cyber Security Awareness month, a time for all solicitors to improve their cyber security knowledge and take action to protect their information and devices. The Law Society, LawCover and the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) are encouraging you to take four simple steps to be cyber wise:
- Update your devices regularly
- Turn on multi-factor authentication
- Backup your important files
- Use passphrases and password managers

A joint sitting of the Federal Circuit Court and Family Court of Australia (Division 1) and Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2) (the Courts) will be held on Friday 13 October 2023 at 9:00am to recognise the Senior Counsel appointed in and for the State of New South Wales in 2023.
