Interested in gaining your CPD by the beach?
The President of the Law Society of NSW, Cassandra Banks, is pleased to invite you to join The Law Society for our visit to the beautiful Mid-North Coast at the Pacific Bay Resort in Coffs Harbour. The full-day program will focus on both professional and business development with presentations from senior members of staff from the Law Society of NSW and other representatives from across the legal profession. We will explore topics including law practice succession and contingency planning, the regulatory framework and complaints process, costs, and more. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Compliance Audit
The Law Society is conducting its annual CPD compliance audit, pursuant to rule 14 of the Legal Profession Uniform Continuing Professional Development (Solicitors) Rules 2015 (CPD Rules). Those selected to participate in the audit have been contacted directly. For further information on CPD, please access our dedicated CPD requirements information page or the Law Society’s Registry Compliance Officer by email to cpdcompliance@lawsociety.com.au
2023 Law Society Council Election – Voting
Solicitor members will be sent an email this week with an invitation to vote electronically in the 2023 Law Society Council election. The email includes a link to the electronic voting form. Eight candidates have been nominated to fill three “Councillor” Unreserved Positions (each for a three-year term). Solicitor members must ensure their vote is received before the ballot closes at 2.00pm (AEDT) on Monday 23 October 2023. Enquiries should be directed to secretary@lawsociety.com.au.
Service honouring the life of Darcy Reginald Francis Patterson
The Law Society of NSW is saddened by the passing of life member Darcy Patterson. Mr Patterson was admitted as a solicitor in 1956. A service honouring his life will be held tomorrow, Tuesday 26 September, at St Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill at 10:30am. Donations to Dementia Australia are requested.

Changes to revenue measures in the 2023-2024 NSW State Budget
The NSW Government has announced some tax measures as part of the 2023-24 Budget. The Treasury and Revenue Legislation Amendment Bill 2023, will implement the measures which are to generally commence on 1 February 2024. A media release that provides a summary of the amendments has been published on the Revenue NSW website. Changes include amendments to the Duties Act 1997, Land Tax Management Act 1956 and the Taxation Administration Act 1996.
