Flooding closes Law Courts Building in Queens Square
Members are advised the Law Courts Building in Queens Square has suffered another major flooding event due to a broken pipe affecting all floors in the building. Access to the premises will therefore be limited until further notice and matters listed in the building are being reallocated urgently. On Monday morning, the Court advised all matters listed for Tuesday to Friday this week will continue to be heard. Court rooms in Wentworth Chambers, Hospital Road, St James Road, King Street, the Chief Secretary’s Building and the Land & Environment Court will be used. The Daily Court List will indicate the relevant court rooms. Updates will be announced via LSJ online here, and on the Law Society’s social media pages.

Job opportunity - Applications open for two new members of NSW Sentencing Council
The Attorney General is calling for applications to be considered for appointment to the NSW Sentencing Council. There are two vacancies:
  1. a member representing the general community, and
  2. a member with expertise or experience in Aboriginal justice matters.
The Attorney General's media release about the opportunity is available here. ​​​​Currently, the Council is working on a review of sentencing for firearms, knives and other weapons-related crime. Amended Practice Note District Court Civil No 1 – Case Management in the General List
On 11 September 2023, the Chief Judge approved the following amendments to Practice Note District Court Civil No 1 – Case Management in the General List, with a commencement date of 18 September 2023:
7.3 is amended to reflect the current case management practices for Notices of Motion filed in the Online Court.
7.4 introduces the time for filing and service of written submissions by 11:00am the day prior to hearing of the Motion.

Re-issued Practice Note SC GEN 20 – Citation of Authority
On 12 September 2023 the Chief Justice reissued Practice Note SC GEN 20 – Citation of Authority, with a commencement date of 1 October 2023. 
The revised Practice Note approves the use of official medium neutral citation for the citing of any authority (subject to Practice Note SC CA 1 Court of Appeal and SC CCA 1 Court of Criminal Appeal – General).
