New course – Vicarious Trauma Awareness online workshop
The Law Society is pleased to partner with Phoenix Australia to deliver a new course focused on understanding and preventing vicarious trauma in the legal profession. Throughout the course attendees will develop practices and procedures that promote best practice before, during, and after exposure to potentially distressing materials or situations, and develop strategies to target wellbeing and encourage the development of personalised self-care plans. 2022-2023 Equitable Briefing Policy annual report
Equitable Briefing Policy adoptees are reminded that there are only a few weeks left to submit their 2022-2023 Equitable Briefing Policy annual report. Briefing Entities and Barristers are reminded to submit their annual reports via the relevant portal entities by 30 September 2023. Briefing Entities who have adopted the policy have committed to providing a confidential annual report to the Law Council of Australia on their briefing practices and measures taken to implement the policy. To assist in this process, the Equitable Briefing Policy Reporting Template and Guidelines provides detailed information on how to how to made a report and includes a reporting template to show the information required. Farewell Ceremony for the Hon. Justice Robert Beech-Jones
Justice Robert Beech-Jones will be retiring as Chief Judge at Common Law and a judge of appeal to take up his appointment as a Justice of the High Court of Australia. A formal ceremony will be held in the Banco Court, on level 13 of the Law Courts Building, on Thursday 19 October at 9.15am. The ceremony will be notified in the Law List on the prior Tuesday and Wednesday and also on the day of the ceremony. No registration will be required. The ceremony will also be livestreamed with the link being posted on the Supreme Court website prior to the ceremony. 
Federal Court of Australia ceremonial sitting
A ceremonial sitting of a Full Court of the Federal Court of Australia will be held in Sydney on Wednesday 13 September 2023 to welcome the Honourable Justice Yaseen Shariff as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia. The ceremonial sitting will be held at 9.30am in Court 1, Level 21, Federal Court of Australia, Law Courts Building, Queens Square, with morning tea served afterwards. Members of the profession who want to attend the ceremony please email Ms Dimitra Argyros at dimitra.argyros@fedcourt.gov.au. Seating will be arranged in Court 1 or another Court for viewing via video link.
