Honouring those who serve

Ahead of ANZAC Day tomorrow, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank those in our membership who have served. For many veterans, returning home can often be a difficult time of readjustment. I recently met with the Veterans Review Board and heard firsthand some of the legal challenges facing returning servicemen and women. I am also mindful of the incredible role that Australian Defence Force personnel have played in assisting communities affected by the devastating fires and floods in recent years. Continue reading >

Thought Leadership: A NSW Climate Act?
At a national level, Australia now has legislation that sets targets for emission reductions and requires progress checks under the Climate Change Act 2022 (Cth). NSW does not have a similar type of accountability for state-level targets, nor a framework for processes by which government and standalone agencies make relevant decisions. NT career opportunity: Assistant Director
As a key member of the Director of Public Prosecutions Executive, the role will operate at strategic and operational levels and will play a critical role in the overall strategy, leadership and performance of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The position will provide high-level strategic, legal, policy and business advice and decision making across a range of matters; assist the Director in the corporate strategic leadership and efficient day-to-day running of the office, including management of human and financial resources across the Northern Territory. Farewell Ceremony for the Honourable Justice Paul Brereton AM RFD
Justice Paul Brereton will be retiring as a Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and a Judge of Appeal to take up his new role as the first Commissioner of the National Anti-Corruption Commission. A formal ceremony to mark this occasion will be held in the Banco Court, on level 13 of the Law Courts Building, on Tuesday 30 May 2023 at 9:15am. The ceremony will also be livestreamed with the link being posted on the Supreme Court website prior to the ceremony.
