Farewell ceremony for Justice Hallen
Justice Phillip Hallen will shortly retire from the Court after 13 years of service, including as an Associate Judge. His Honour's last sitting will be on Friday 30 June 2023 in Court 12D of the Queens Square Law Courts complex at 9:15am. Members of the profession are invited to attend.
Reissued Practice Note SC EQ 7 – Succession & Probate Lists
On 16 June 2023 the Chief Justice reissued Practice Note SC EQ 07 – Succession & Probate Lists, with a commencement date of 1 July 2023.  The revised Practice Note updates the practice that will apply to family provision and probate matters. You can view the Note here and it will be able to be viewed online from 1 July 2023.
Information briefing: Succession and Probate Lists
The Chief Judge in Equity, Justice Hammerschlag, invites members to an information briefing about the upcoming changes to family provision applications and probate proceedings in the new Succession and Probate List. The briefing will be held on Wednesday 21 June 2023 at 4:30pm in person in Court 12D. An audio-visual will also be available here. The Chief Justice will be present.

Revenue NSW: Changes to first home buyer assistance
Access to the First Home Buyer Choice (FHBC) scheme is being closed off from 1 July 2023. Purchasers who exchange contracts on or before 30 June 2023 have up until settlement to opt-in to FHBC. 
From 1 July 2023, the transfer duty exemption threshold for new and existing home purchases by eligible first home buyers will increase from $650,000 to $800,000, and the concessional rate threshold will increase from $800,000 to $1 million. Read more.

Revenue NSW: Changes to the residence requirement
Pursuant to the First Home Buyer Legislation Amendment Act 2023, the residence requirement will change for the following:
  • First Home Buyers Assistance scheme
  • First Home Owner grant
  • Deferral of transfer duty payment for off the plan transactions
  • Exemptions for tenants of the Department of Housing and Aboriginal Housing Office
For contracts entered into on or after 1 July 2023, purchasers under the above schemes, grants or exemptions must move into their homes within 12 months of settlement and live in the property for a continuous 12-month period to satisfy the residence requirement. Read more.
