PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
A time for renewal

By now you will have seen in your inbox the prompt to renew your Practising Certificate (PC) for 2023-24. As of last Monday (24 April) almost half of NSW’s solicitors had done just that. That’s a better than average effort for this time in ‘renewal season’ (which runs for another fortnight, ending Monday, 15 May). I think, in no small part, that success is due to the new, easy to use online application form launched this year. I want to thank the Registry and IT teams at the Law Society for their work on this important project which is crucial to the profession. Continue reading >

Thought Leadership: A NSW Climate Act?
At a national level, Australia now has legislation that sets targets for emission reductions and requires progress checks under the Climate Change Act 2022 (Cth). NSW does not have a similar type of accountability for state-level targets, nor a framework for processes by which government and standalone agencies make relevant decisions. This begs the question: do we need a standalone NSW Act? Join our experts including Martijn Wilder AM and Tony Wood AM on 3 May to hear more. Register here.
