Youth and the Law - A play: written, produced and directed by St Catherine's College Year 11 Drama Class with Ms Lisa Hall, Teacher

Singleton public library proudly presents a play for the 11th consecutive year with two performances in May 2019.

Over 300 year 9 students from three schools, Year 11 Legal Studies Students and additional community members will be in attendance. The play targets young people and the law, with cutting edge plots which in the past have included cyber law, underage drinking, illegal drug abuse, drink spiking, youth violence, peer pressure.

This year the focus continues be on youth crime and the consequences of breaking the law, with a scenario which will lead to the offenders being arrested, needing a solicitor and attending court. Over the past 10 years the play has been captivating audiences and bringing the message that breaking the law has consequences.

Local Court, Police, Solicitors, Legal Aid, Schools, Local Council and Libraries will feature or be promoted. This play continues to educate, encourage student participation, create awareness of the law and services, and to bring together youth and legal officers in a special way. 

Starring St Catherine's College Year 11 Drama Class Students:

  • Senior Constable - Sheree Grey
  • Cessnock Court House Acting Registrar - Mrs Melinda Foote
  • Local solicitor - Ms Georgia Redmond from Curtis Delaney Gray.

This program will include question time for student audience with hand out information kit for use in Year 9 classrooms, and hand out bags from State Library of NSW promotions including LawAccess and Find Legal Answers.
