PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Make new connections and stay up to date

EOIs closing soon

One of the best ways to give back to your profession, make new connections and stay up to date, is to participate in one of the Law Society’s 27 Regulatory, Policy and Segment Committees.

Members received an email on 1 September 2022, which included a link to the Expression of Interest (EOI) and I encourage you to consider lending your expertise to these Committees. They not only advocate on your behalf to the tune of approximately 250 submissions a year but help co-regulate the profession. If you can’t locate your email, you can submit an EOI via our website.

Whether you are a partner from a large firm who can lend expertise to our Property Law Committee, or an inhouse practitioner who can provide experience to our Business Law Committee, there is a Committee to suits everyone. If you’d like to know more, please contact me, or our Law Society Councillors who would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have. Continue reading >

PRACTICE AND PROCEDURE

List of Independent Administrators
The Law Society maintains a List of Independent Administrators, in support of the Supreme Court’s discretion to appoint an independent administrator in Succession List matters where there is no executor available. If the parties cannot agree on who should be appointed, the Court may refer the parties to the Law Society to obtain a copy of the List, and use it to identify and agree on a nominee for appointment.  The List does not constrain the Court’s discretion to appoint any person as an independent administrator at any stage of proceedings.
