Brisbane residents will go into lockdown
|
From 5pm, Monday 29 March 2021, Greater Brisbane residents will go into a three-day lockdown and restrictions will come into place across Queensland after cases of COVID-19 transmission were detected in the community. New eligibility policy for Criminal Contempt of Court
Effective from 22 March 2021, Legal Aid is available for some criminal contempt of court proceedings. This stems from a decision of the Legal Aid NSW Board, following advocacy from Legal Aid NSW staff, as well as the Law Society of NSW and the Aboriginal Legal Service, who recognised that some vulnerable defendants facing a real possibility of imprisonment were unable to access adequate legal representation. The policy is published at Criminal Law Policy 4.19: Contempt of Court. For details of the change please see Policy Bulletin 2021 No. 1 [Criminal Law Policy – contempt of court].

Release of the revised ODPP Guidelines
The Director of Public Prosecutions Lloyd Babb SC has released revised Prosecution Guidelines. The Prosecution Guidelines were settled following extensive consultation with key stakeholders within the criminal justice system. The Prosecution Guidelines were published on 29 March 2021 and are available on the ODPP website.

Emails relating to the online lodgement of the 2021 Law Practice Confirmation and Statement of Trust Money are being issued by the Trust Accounts Department on 9 April 2021.
