PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Welcome back to all our Members and Happy New Year

Even though COVID continues to disrupt our lives, I hope you were all able to put pens down, take some time off and relax with family and friends over the past few weeks. In wishing you well for the year ahead, I am mindful that some of you are unwell, or are caring for family members who are sick. I hope you recover quickly and are able to lean on those around you for support. Continue reading >

External examiners course

COVID Update: Courts and clients in custody
To assist the profession in relation to seeing their clients who are in custody prior to court, a centralised email address for escalating access issues has been established for the judiciary, legal practitioners and court staff to log access issues and make inquiries. It is a single point of contact for court services and legal practitioners to ensure an appropriate and timely response to inquiries and access issues. The email address is AVLclosed@justice.nsw.gov.au. Legal practitioners who have an imminent matter and who cannot secure a vacant booking time in JUST Connect are advised to contact the following email addresses:

Local Court matters: DefendantHearingAVL@justice.nsw.gov.au
District and Supreme Court matters: SupremeDistrictAVL@justice.nsw.gov.au
Walama List Practice Note
Practitioners are reminded that District Court Criminal Practice Note 26,Walama List Sentencing Procedure, commences at the NSW District Court Downing Centre on 31 January 2022. For more information please review the Walama List Factsheet.
Support for the profession
Solicitors are reminded that if they or a colleague are struggling, the Solicitor Outreach Service (SOS) is available. Through this service, solicitors have 24/7 access to confidential counselling with a registered psychologist. Also, if a solicitor is subject to a complaint or other regulatory process, they can contact one of the panellists on the Professional Conduct Advisory Panel for support.
