#EachforEqual: International Women's Day Celebrations

For the past century, each year on 8 March events are held all around the world to mark International Women’s Day - to celebrate and reflect on the social, economic, political and cultural achievements of women.

There have been many key milestones for women in law, from the turn of the last century to the present day. We have much to celebrate, which needs to be acknowledged, but still more to achieve. Women lawyers today are entering a profession which offers so much more for them than the one I entered almost 40 years ago.

The Family Court of Australia and the Federal Circuit Court of Australia Summer Campaign
The Chief Justice of the Family Court of Australia has advised that the Family Court of Australia and Federal Circuit Court of Australia are conducting callovers nationally (‘the Summer Campaign’), commencing in the Sydney and Parramatta Registries in March 2020.
In Sydney, the callovers will take place in the Family Court between 2-6 March and 9-11 March 2020.  In the Federal Circuit Court, they will be held from 16-20 March 2020. In Parramatta, callovers in the Federal Circuit Court will take place between 6-9 April 2020.
The focus of the callovers will be on both parenting and property matters that have been pending in either court for more than 18 months. Parties will be encouraged to reach agreement through family dispute resolution, mediation and ADR. In some cases matters may be referred to mediation. Where the matter is not suitable for ADR, best endeavours will be made to provide a trial date.
Letters will shortly be sent to all practitioners and litigants advising of listings for the March callover. Practitioners attending callovers will be expected to be familiar with the issues in the case and to have discussed how to progress the matter to resolution.
