NEWS
Law Society Christmas closure
The Law Society of New South Wales will be closed from Thursday 24 December 2020 through to Friday 8 January 2021. During this period, the Law Society will operate with a skeleton staff which will service specific licensing functions. The Law Society’s Phillip Street building and most services to the profession and public, however, will be closed. This is also the final issue of Monday Briefs for 2020. Law Society Library and Shop holiday closures
All Library and Shop services will conclude for the year at 4pm on Thursday 23 December 2020 and return at 9am Monday 11 January 2021. Please note, access to the Library and Shop on Level 1 of the Law Society building will remain closed to visitors until further notice.
Where possible, please submit all requests for library assistance to library@lawsociety.com.au by 4pm on Friday 11 December 2020.

Updated COVID-19 Pandemic Arrangements Policy and Class 5 Practice Note
The COVID-19 Pandemic Arrangements Policy has been replaced by a new policy effective from 10 December 2020. The revised Policy sets out arrangements that revoke the Interim Protocol for the Issuing of Class 5 Proceedings, which was adopted as an interim measure to deal with the first phase of the COVID-19 Pandemic and amends the procedure for filing and applications in criminal proceedings.

The Practice Note - Class 5 Proceedings dated 3 April 2018 has been replaced with a new practice note, effective from 10 December 2020 that:

  • revokes the Interim Protocol for the Issuing of Class 5 proceedings, which was adopted as an interim mesure to deal with the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic;
  • amends the procedure for obtaining orders to provide for alternative methods of hearing an application to commence proceedings; and
  • sets out procedures for filing summons for the respective methods of hearing an application.

NSW Land Registry Services Business Arrangements Christmas and New Year 2020/21
NSW LRS Lodgment Office will be closed on 29 December 2020, 30 December and 31 December 2020. If online options for lodgment can’t be used, or for enquiries on these dates, bookings must be made via the Contact Centre (8776 3575) to arrange a time to lodge documents or conduct an over the counter search. The NSW LRS offices will also be closed on the public holidays. Read more.
