NSW IRC update
Given the extension of the stay at home orders across Greater Sydney, and as the City of Parramatta is an LGA of concern, all Commission matters will continue to be conducted by videoconference or teleconference until at least 27 August 2021. Where a matter is listed for arbitration on or before 27 August 2021 the Commission expects arties to confer as to whether the matter is suitable to be heard on the papers, is suitable for video/teleconference, or should be deferred until a later date and to notify the Industrial Registrar of their preference. Any decision as to whether an arbitration will be conducted by VCR or on the papers in this period or deferred until a later date will be made by the presiding Member of the Commission. The presiding Member may determine to adjourn a listing to a later date, regardless of the parties’ preferences. The Commission has also extended the period during which email filing of materials, subject to the requirements and limits set out in the Update published on 14 July 2021, will be accepted, until 5pm on 27 August 2021. More information here.

National Cabinet statement: vaccine rollout and targets
The National Cabinet met on Friday to discuss the vaccine strategy. The vaccine strategy is current in Stage A, which involves targets for accelerating the number of vaccines administered. The next stage, Phase B, will commence when 70 per cent of the adult population is fully vaccinated and measures may include: maintaining high vaccination rates, encouraging uptake through incentives and other measures, minimising cases in the community through ongoing low-level restrictions and effective track and trace, and with lockdowns unlikely but possible and targeted.
