PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Bill Grant OAM Access to Justice Oration

Former NSW Attorney General The Honourable Bob Debus AM will deliver the 2019 Bill Grant OAM Access to Justice Oration on 22 August 2019 on the topic, "Must prisoner numbers grow forever?". Registrations are now open for this event, which will be held at the Law Society on Phillip Street. 

Nominations are now open for the 2019 Charter for the Advancement of Women Awards. These Awards recognise the efforts of signatories to the Law Society’s Charter for the Advancement of Women in the Legal Profession who have demonstrated excellence in implementing strategies and workplace changes relating to the advancement of women in the legal workplace. Conveyancing Rules Waiver CR 2/2019 – Mainstream dealings exceptions
Conveyancing Rules Waiver CR 2/2019 has been amended to provide waivers for further transactions that are not able to be lodged electronically, provided evidence is supplied from Revenue NSW or an ELNO. Revenue NSW has provided details of transactions that are not able to be lodged electronically and how to apply for the letter of evidence from Revenue NSW to support Waiver CR 2/2019.

Practice Note DC CP 11 (District Court Criminal Practice Note – Child Sexual Offence Evidence Program Scheme – Downing Centre)
District Court Criminal Practice Note 11 commenced on 6 August 2019. It applies to all prescribed sexual offences committed for trial from the Local Court to the Downing Centre District Court where the complainant is under 18 at the time of committal. The list will be known as the Child Sexual Assault List and will be managed separately from the general arraignments list.
