The joys and challenges of working in rural, regional and remote areas
Over the past week the CEO, Sonja Stewart, Senior Ethics Solicitor, Linden Barnes and I have had the absolute pleasure to attend Regional Law Society meetings and events in Orange, Broken Hill and Ballina. Visits to our regions enable us to connect with members one on one and hear about the joys and challenges of working in rural, regional and remote areas.
Many rural solicitors face continued challenges with a lack of court resourcing and mental health and alcohol and other drug services to which they can refer clients. Others face disproportionately heavy workloads due to a severe shortage of lawyers in these areas. Some have seen the benefits of COVID-19 related changes to the way we work, with tree-change lawyers hitting their towns and joining local firms. Continue reading >

High Court (2023 Sittings) Rules 2022
The Justice of the High Court of Australia have made a Rule of Court appointing the High Court sittings for 2023. The Rule appoints the sittings to be held in Canberra throughout the year and the days on which special leave applications will be heard. Additional sittings may also be held as required and will be appointed by the Chief Justice pursuant to Rule 6.04.2 of the High Court Rules 2004.
