PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Overdue examination of a national shame

Tens of thousands of First Nations and other Australians gathered last week at dozens of vigils held around the nation to mourn the death of 15-year-old Noongar boy Cassius Turvey. The outpouring of grief for Cassius is a tragic reminder that too many First Nations Australians have died as the result of violence. That’s why the Senate Inquiry into missing and murdered First Nations women and children is so important. We hope the Inquiry will acknowledge the ongoing trauma for families and communities and make recommendations in respect of supporting their healing process. Continue reading >

An Indigenous Voice? A lawyer, a barrister, and an indigenous advocate discuss The Voice
Join Dr Anthony Dillon, Prof. James Allan and Ms Louise Clegg this Tuesday, 8 November at NSW Parliament House, as they share their perspectives on the proposed Indigenous Voice to Parliament. Cultural Diversity Focus Groups Project: Pilot Outcomes Report Launch
The NSW Branch of the Asian Australian Lawyers Association, together with King & Wood Mallesons, invite you to attend the launch of the Pilot Outcomes Report of the Cultural Diversity Focus Groups Project on Thursday, 10 November 2022. The launch event commences at 6pm, with in-person attendance at King & Wood Mallesons and an online streaming option available. Swearing In of Judge of the Land and Environment Court of New South Wales

Civil law policy: Mental Health Matters Removal Update
​​​​​​Legal Aid NSW has removed the merit test for further review proceedings for involuntary patients appearing before the Mental Health Review Tribunal under s 37(1)(c) of the Mental Health Act 2007 (NSW).
