Know your legal rights
coming to a library near you
1 May - 12 June 2019
Libraries around NSW are hosting free workshops as part of Law Week (13 to 19 May) with a focus on how best to avoid scams, and understanding your legal rights in relation to the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
The workshops, to be held in 40 public libraries across the state, are a collaboration between the State Library of NSW, Legal Aid NSW, Community Legal Centres and NSW Fair Trading.
According to Legal Aid NSW CEO Brendan Thomas, Law Week presents an ideal opportunity to showcase key areas where legal assistance could make a significant and positive impact.
“Legal Aid NSW is here to provide help in the areas of criminal, civil and family law for everyone – but especially our most vulnerable and disadvantaged communities,” he said. “We value our partnership with libraries, Community Legal Centres and other NSW Government agencies.”
The State Library's Find Legal Answers service, a partnership with public libraries, provides the community with up-to-date and reliable legal information to answer common questions about the law.
State Librarian John Vallance said: “This important Law Week collaboration brings legal service providers into local libraries to share their expertise and inform the community on legal issues that impact on their everyday lives.” There are two workshops available to libraries – Avoiding Scams and NDIS: how the law can help.
