Retirement of Chief Justice Tom Bathurst AC and support for our regional communities

After more than a decade in the role, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of NSW, the Hon Tom Bathurst SC, has announced he will be retiring on 5 March 2022. The Chief Justice has made a significant and lasting contribution to the service of the law and the administration of justice in our state. Our state and our profession has benefited enormously from his time leading the Supreme Court. New resource for practitioners to assist clients experiencing domestic and family violence
'Working with clients affected by domestic and family violence' is a new Law Society resource that helps practitioners understand the practical and procedural steps they can take to prioritise safety. While focusing on the family law context, the guide recognises that domestic and family violence is pervasive, complex and can happen in many settings. Family law practitioners and practitioners in other areas will find this a helpful resource.

New guide for law firms and legal workplaces to become more culturally diverse and inclusive
The Law Society of NSW has launched a new guide outlining steps that law firms and legal workplaces can take to become more culturally diverse and inclusive. President Juliana Warner, says that while law firms and legal practices have worked to boost cultural diversity in recent years, more work is required to ensure cultural diversity in the legal workplace. Director Identification Numbers
All company directors will be required to have a Director Identification Number (DIN) by the relevant due date depending on when they were appointed as a director. Any person becoming a director after 1 November 2021 must apply within 28 days of appointment. Company directors will need to apply for their DIN themselves and cannot use agents to apply on their behalf. From November 2021, company directors will be able to start applying for a DIN through the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS) website.
