NSW Young Lawyers
President's Message
Taylah Spirovski - President, NSW Young Lawyers
As we stand on the threshold of a new year, I am both honoured and excited to address you as this year’s President. Our journey together promises to be one of growth, friendship, and professional fulfillment.
In the legal landscape, the potential for impact is vast, and our collective energy is the catalyst for positive change. As early career lawyers, you represent the future of our profession, and I am confident that the year ahead will be one of extraordinary achievements and personal growth.
NSW Young Lawyers is not merely a professional network; it is a supportive community where ideas flourish, mentorship thrives, and friendships are fostered. I encourage you to actively participate in our events, engage with fellow members, and take advantage of the wealth of resources offered to you. Whether it's through monthly meetings, seminars, networking events, or community outreach initiatives, let us embrace the diversity of our experiences and the richness of our shared time.
We are formed of 15 Sub-Committees, each dedicated to a substantive area of law, which run monthly meetings, on top of which we offer professional, networking, and development opportunities. View our upcoming events on the NSW Young Lawyers calendar here. We advocate change through submissions on legal and policy reform (you can read our previous submissions here). We exist to support everyone practicing law up to 36 years of age, or in their first 5 years of practice anywhere in NSW – you are very welcome to sign up to our Sub-Committee mailing lists through LawID, connect with us on Linkedin, Facebook, and Instagram.
It is my great pleasure to announce that the NSW Young Lawyers Patron for 2024 is Local Court Magistrate Imad Abdul-Karim. I am elated by this selection; it is particularly motivating for our collective efforts to foster a culture of inclusiveness within the profession. We look forward to drawing inspiration from Magistrate Abdul-Karim, as well as his Patron’s address later this year (an event not to miss!).
As members of the profession, we also seek to support our community, and so this year we have partnered with the Mirabel Foundation, the NSW Young Lawyers Charity for 2024. Mirabel supports children aged 0-17 years and works at restoring a child’s sense of self-worth, belonging and hope for the future. It is the only organisation in Australia specifically addressing the needs of children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental drug use. We look forward to building our understanding, amplifying their message, and fundraising for their work. You can learn more about the Mirabel Foundation, or donate, here.
It is a privilege to represent you. You form part of a community of sharp, dedicated, kind and daring people who share a common purpose and commitment to justice. The world and the profession are better off because of it.
Sincerely,
Taylah Spirovski
