The Law Society of NSW welcomes the appointment of Emeritus Professor Rosalind Croucher AM as the new President of the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC).

The Law Society of NSW welcomes the appointment of Emeritus Professor Rosalind Croucher AM as the new President of the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC).

The Law Society of NSW President Pauline Wright said Professor Croucher was an outstanding appointment who would bring vitality, understanding and experience to the organization's promotion and protection of human rights in Australia.

"Professor Croucher has been esteemed by her peers throughout her distinguished career as a solicitor, academic and as President of the Australian Law Reform Commission," Ms Wright said. 

"Her strong leadership of the ALRC and broad experience, including several landmark inquiries into human rights, as well as her strategic and constructive approach to law reform makes her well-equipped for this important role," Ms Wright said.

Ms Wright said Professor Croucher worked collaboratively and closely with the legal profession and had made a significant contribution to the Law Council of Australia's Justice Project.

Ms Wright also congratulated outgoing AHRC president Emeritus Professor Gillian Triggs for her tenacious leadership of the AHRC and vital input to human rights reform.

"We are sure Professor Triggs's role in human rights debate and law reform will continue to be positive and productive."
