Current Councillors

Below are profiles of the NSW Young Lawyers Leadership Team and Executive Councillors. Members of the Executive Council who are not part of the Leadership Team are elected for a term of two years and must participate in and/or chair at least one Sub-Committee during their term.

Leadership Team

President: Taylah Spirovski

Taylah is a litigation solicitor at HWL Ebsworth Lawyers. Taylah joined NSW Young Lawyers in 2021 as a Law Graduate - since this time she has held various positions on both Sub-Committees and Executive Council. She is delighted to now commence her role as President of NSW Young Lawyers for 2024.  

Taylah is deeply committed to social justice and community advocacy. In her spare time, Taylah sits on the Board of a not-for-profit community organisation run by women for women affected by domestic violence and is also the Chief Executive Officer of a youth-led human rights organisation. Taylah also represents Australia within the Young Commonwealth Lawyers Association's Australasia Hub. 

Through her role as President, Taylah hopes to have a transformative impact on the experiences of young lawyers from diverse backgrounds and amplify the voices of women in the legal profession. Taylah has set out to commit to three key touchstone areas: 1. AI and Legal Technology; 2. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; and 3. Pro Bono and Access to Justice.  

Taylah holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (Distinction) from the University of Wollongong. 

Vice President: Timothy Roberts

Timothy is a solicitor at NEW Law, a law firm owned by unions that provides legal services to unions, union members and the general public. He works in a range of areas including industrial, employment, criminal and personal injury law. 

Timothy commenced at NEW Law as a paralegal and research assistant to support the Counsel Assisting the Teachers Federation Independent Inquiry into the status of teaching, and his work in this role contributed to the 2021 Valuing the teacher profession report. 
  
Prior to Timothy’s appointment at NEW Law, he worked as a Senior Education Officer and Executive Officer at the NSW Education Standards Authority. He holds a Bachelor of Biomedical Science and a Master of Education from the University of Newcastle, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Technology Sydney.
  
Timothy began his career as a secondary science teacher, working in regional NSW. In 2016, he was a representative for public schools on the Quality Teaching Council. He has also worked as a Relief Officer in many roles at the NSW Teachers Federation and been an association representative on their Branch Council. 

Timothy is the Secretary of the NSW Young Lawyers Workplace and Safety Law Sub-Committee and currently a member of the management committee of the New South Wales Council for Civil Liberties. 

Secretary: Seth Harlen

Seth graduated with his law degree from the University of Technology Sydney in 2022 and was admitted as a Solicitor in 2024. 

Although early in his career, Seth has developed a vast professional network. His ability to connect with lawyers globally has resulted in him becoming an Ambassador for the Legally Speaking Podcast, one of the leading podcasts in the legal profession founded by London based legal recruiter, Robert Hanna.

In his free time, Seth enjoys plenty of video games and also volunteers with the HARS Aviation Museum in Albion Park. Seth has a passion for aviation with a hope to get into aviation law.

Immediate Past President: Olivia Irvine

Olivia is a highly enthusiastic financial services lawyer (she has a close, but complex friendship with RG97, and is on a first-name basis with the CCIV Framework and Other Measures Act).

Having been admitted to practice in September 2020, Olivia had a wonderful, and technology forward (ie. virtual) admission ceremony. Olivia received her professional work experience as a volunteer with Redfern Legal Centre, in the Health Justice Partnership and Police and Government Accountability practices, prior to which she worked for many years in the rare book trade.

Since joining in 2018, Olivia has been enthusiastically involved in NSW Young Lawyers. In 2019 she became the Submission Co-Ordinator of the Communications, Entertainment and Technology Sub-Committee, completing a then-record number of submissions, and in November 2021, was appointed Chair of the Sub-Committee. Olivia won both the 2020 and 2021 NSW Young Lawyers Golden Gavel competitions.

Olivia was appointed as Vice President of NSW Young Lawyers in 2022, and served as President in 2023. She looks forward to continuing her involvement as Immediate Past President in 2024. 

Olivia is always interested in discussing financial services law and her favourite ASIC RGs, access to justice, and medieval literature. For wellbeing, she also enjoys illustrating birds. 

Submissions Lead: Sarah Ienna

Sarah works in criminal law. She has been involved in NSW Young Lawyers since 2017, holding the positions of Secretary, Vice-Chair and Chair of the Criminal Law Sub-Committee. She has been an Executive Councillor since 2021. Sarah was nominated for NSW Young Lawyer of the Year in 2020 and 2023. 

Sarah is committed to promoting wellbeing in the law, including mitigating vicarious trauma, empowering young lawyers to raise issues of concern in their workplaces, and equipping members of NSW Young Lawyers with skills to assist them in having a sustainable career in the law. She also has a particular interest in law reform and policy issues.

Aside from her love of the law, Sarah has a lifelong passion for dancing. 

Executive Councillors

Amy Farrugia

Amy is a solicitor at Vania Holt Legal, where she works in both family law and estate planning. Admitted to practice in 2022, Amy gained her professional work experience at the Aboriginal Legal Service in Newcastle, the University of Newcastle Older Person's Legal Clinic and  'Law on the Beach' clinic.

Amy's involvement with NSW Young Lawyers began in 2021, when she became Student Representative for the Criminal Law Sub-Committee. During her time as Student Representative, Amy co-ordinated and chaired the Criminal Law Sub-Committee's 'Careers in Criminal Law Panel', an event designed to assist those wanting to begin or transition into a career in criminal law. In 2022, Amy became Vice Chair of the Criminal Law Sub-Committee and graduated from the University of Newcastle, where she completed a Juris Doctor with Distinction. She also holds a Bachelor of International Studies from the University of New South Wales.

During her free time, Amy enjoys listening to podcasts, going to the gym, cooking new recipes and taking her cat for long walks in the backyard (it is quite a small cat).

Milorad (Milo) Kuga

Milo is an Industrial Officer and Solicitor at the Doctors Union – the Australian Salaried Medical Officers Federation. He acts for doctors employed in the public and private hospital systems as well as those employed by other entities. Milo works in a range of areas including employment, industrial, administrative and discrimination law.
Prior to Milo’s appointment at ASMOF the Doctors Union, he represented the interests of professional firefighters as an Industrial Officer and Solicitor for the Fire Brigade Employees’ Union of New South Wales. Part of his work included advocating for firefighters diagnosed with occupational cancers and trauma-related illnesses caused by firefighting.

He was previously employed by the Public Service Association of South Australia (PSA), where he represented many public sector workers, including solicitors employed by the Legal Aid, the Crown Solicitor’s Office and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Milo was previously a PSA member and delegate himself as a salaried Fire and Emergency Services Officer within the emergency services sector.

Milo holds a Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice, a Bachelor of International Studies and an Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (Emergency Management). He is the Vice-Chair of the Workplace and Safety Law Subcommittee, a member of the North Metropolitan Regional Law Society and an associate member of the Finance Sector Union. Milo is also a proud member of the United Services Union, the union for community and private sector lawyers.

William Noonan

Admitted as a Solicitor in May 2021, Will is an Associate based in Sydney, primarily practising in complex Estate litigation, Estate Planning, Conveyancing, and Employment Law matters. Will graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bachelor of Arts (History/Political Science) from ANU in 2020 and was admitted as a Solicitor in 2021. During his studies, Will undertook an overseas course at the London School of Economics studying Advanced Mediation and Negotiation. Will is currently undertaking a Master Of Laws (Applied Law) through the College of Law, with a major in Wills and Estates. His interest in Wills and Estate can only be explained by nominative determinism. 

Will became involved with NSW Young Lawyers through the Eastern Suburbs Law Society, where he has been the Young Lawyers Representative since March 2023. As an Executive Councillor, Will seeks to entice more young lawyers to join and participate in their suburban and regional law societies (as well as NSW Young Lawyers) and to address the increasing financial barriers faced by regional and suburban communities in their access to justice. 

Outside of work, Will likes to spend time telling people they need a will, cooking, and painting. He does not enjoy folding washing, long hikes, or marathons.

Jodie Sheen

Admitted as a Solicitor in 2018, Jodie is currently an estate planning lawyer in private online practice living in Parkes. She practices predominately in the areas of succession planning and estates. Jodie studied at Southern Cross University graduating with a Bachelor of Laws and has subsequently undertaken a Masters of Applied Law with the College of Law, with a focus on succession planning and wills, estates and estate administration.

 Jodie has been an active member of NSW Young Lawyers since 2020 when she was elected as one of the Regional Delegates for the Central West region. She is now Vice-Chair of the NSW Young Lawyers Bush Web Sub-Committee and is a proud to advocate for regional issues and mental wellbeing in the profession. On Executive Council, Jodie’s key focuses will be encouraging, maintaining and facilitating mental wellbeing in the profession, and improving access to justice for people living in regional NSW.

 In her downtime, Jodie enjoys spending time with her two boys, learning new skills, building Lego Technic and hiking.

Elena (Yiyi) Su

Elena is the Senior Associate at Ajuria Lawyers, where she provides legal and compliance advice to high net worth individuals, multinational corporations, and highly skilled industry professionals seeking migration solutions. Since her admission to the bar in 2018, she had experiences in industry relations and commercial laws, working with a reputable labour union and few general practice firms before specializing in migration law. In addition to her general legal practice, Elena leads the Entertainment Practice at the firm, where she guides domestic and international production companies in bringing talented individuals to Australia for exciting projects.

Elena's involvement with the NSW Law Society commenced in 2023 where she was appointed as a Committee member of the Human Rights Committee. 

Elena holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Sydney. Outside of her professional life, Elena enjoys indulging in true crime podcasts, practising Pilates, and consuming copious amounts of coffee and tea. 

Sarah Seher Yigit

Sarah is a Senior Associate at Pearson Emerson Family Lawyers specialising in all financial matters dealing with marriage including prenuptial and financial agreements or other relationship breakdowns including de facto and same sex relationships, and issues relating to children.
Sarah has been an active member of NSW Young Lawyers since 2020 when she moved to Sydney to work after she graduated with Honours in Law in Melbourne. At NSW Young Lawyers, Sarah previously acted as a wellbeing officer for the Family Law Sub-Committee in 2021 and was elected as the current Chair of the Family Law Sub-Committee in March 2022. During her time as Chair, the Family Law Sub-Committee has been awarded the 2022 Young Lawyers Patron's Award for Best Professional Event.
Sarah was previously the Associate to the Deputy Chief Justice of the Federal Circuit Court and Family Court of Australia, as it is now known, and has significant experience working in the non for profit sector providing access to justice for victims of gender based violence.
Sarah has a passion for promoting diversity, equal opportunity and wellbeing in the profession. Sarah aims to advocate on these issues through the Executive Council and promote opportunity, community and support for Young Lawyers.
