Mandatory Continuing Professional Development

Under Rule 42.1.6 of the Revised Professional Conduct and Practice Rules all practitioners must complete one unit of education each year in the following three fields:

  • ethics and professional responsibility
  • practice management and business skills, and
  • professional skills.

To facilitate compliance with these mandatory continuing professional development requirements, the Law Society offers a range of free, on-site continuing professional development (CPD) programs, which can be tailored to your in-house, government or firm’s practice.

Ethics

The ethics program covers current issues in ethics and the Conduct Rules. Presentations can be tailored to deal with issues of particular relevance to the participants’ areas of practice. Read more.

Information sessions on legal costs satisfy the compulsory one unit in 'practice management and business skills'. Sessions can cover a range of information depending on the needs of your practice, such as compliance difficulties, file transfers from/to another law practice, billing practices, the costs assessment process and litigation costs.
