Office and Legal Training

The Law Society provides practical courses to help legal professionals improve their administrative skills and knowledge of legal processes.

All courses offer large, medium and small firms a cost-effective staff development solution of the highest standard. Many courses are offered at two levels catering to the needs of both Solicitors and Support Staff.

Who are the courses for?

All courses (except Online Legal Essentials) are restricted to solicitors and support staff currently working in, or returning to a legal practice or department and/or those new to the area of law or wanting to update their knowledge and skills. Firms with a solicitor member of the Law Society of NSW are eligible for discounts on course fees.

Courses offered

These are not legal advice courses. These courses cover administrative legal procedures only  and are offered as both online training programs and face-to-face courses. Please note the Legal Secretarial/Support Training Program is now referenced as Continuing Professional Development.

Online Training

Online Wills & Probate Procedures Course – designed to help students understand how to properly prepare all the documents associated with a Wills and Probate matter. This course is offered at both Solicitor and support staff level. 

Online Conveyancing Procedures Course – with the development of practical skills in mind, this course will help you to understand how to properly prepare all the documents associated with a Conveyancing matter. This is offered at both Solicitor and support staff level.

Online Legal Essentials: A Concise Guide to the NSW Legal System – OPEN TO THE PUBLIC - designed for students with no legal experience covering information about the legal industry and working in a law firm. This course is open to the public and is ideal for those interested in working in the industry.

Wills & Probate Procedures Day Course – this course provides a practical understanding of Wills & Probate procedures and how to administratively support them.

Conveyancing Procedures/Fundamentals Day Course – a practical and introductory guide to conveyancing, this course focuses on the area’s administrative processes. This course is offered at both Solicitor and support staff level.

Family Law Procedures/Fundamentals Day Course – a practical course focusing on administrative and support procedures when dealing with Family Law matters. This course is offered at both Solicitor and support staff level.

Working in a Small Law Firm Day Course – an introductory course covering the essentials for admin and support staff working in a small law firm or legal department. 

Criminal Law Procedures Day Course – a one day course covering admin procedures, court systems and the basic principles of Criminal Law.

Litigation Procedures Day Course – a one day course covering the processes involved in debt collection, liquidation and bankruptcy matters.

Commercial Law Procedures Day Course – a one day introductory course for support staff wishing to gain practical administration skills and knowledge when dealing with commercial law matters.
